Site Tour
The first part of the evening was a guided tour of the site. The
pictures (above) are shown in tour sequence.
First picture taken; Starting point of the project and where the M9
Spur connects to the new project/motorway Third Picture is the new
Humbie Underpass which new motorway will travel above the structure
and the underpass will provide connection from B800 (Kirkliston) to
the A8000 (S. Queensferry) 5th picture existing Milton Farm Rd. which
will be replaced by a new overbridge 6th picture the point where the
new M9 Spur joins the A90 above Scotstoun overbridge
Background to the M9 Spur - A90 Link Road
The M9 Spur - A90 Upgrading once constructed will be replacing a combination of motorway, dual & single carriageway roads which carry an average peak traffic volume of 8000 vehicle/hour, resulting in traffic congestion for long periods of the day. The scheme has been named as the "Missing Link" in the major road network in South East Scotland. The aim is to speed up journey times and reduce congestion on local roads in and around South Queensferry and Kirkliston
- Late 1970's Initial scheme concept designs discussed.
- 1999 Scottish Executive (SE) asks City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) to begin developing plans for scheme as they are the Local Roads Authority.
- April 2000 CEC approve an off-line scheme to replace A8000
- February 2001 CEC begin developing scheme plans with engineering designers.
- December 2001 Public consultation meetings and exhibitions held in local area Preparation work for planning application.
- March 2002 Planning application submitted.
- January 2004 Public local enquiry held to hear any objections to the proposed scheme (and CPO).
- July 2004 CPO and RO are confirmed. Council enters negotiations with land owners to purchase land.
- June 2005 Main works contract was opened to tenders.
- June 2005 to Spring 2006 Grouting works carried out to consolidate historic mine workings in area.
- March 06 The project was awarded to Morrison
construction Ltd.
Work commenced on site on 15th May 2006 and due to be completed by August 2007, total length approximately 4km and it has the following major structures:- Humbie Overbridge
- Milton Farm Underbridge
- Dolphington Overbridge
- BP Line casing
- Scotstoun Overbridge
